I joined Rusty Humphries on his radio show, Trending Today USA to talk about how Donald Trump is bypassing the traditional media–and making them really mad in the process!

The number one story trending this hour today in the USA: Donald Trump bypassing traditional media by using Twitter. Members of the media, they ain’t liking it. They don’t like it, because they’re being left out of the loop. Gayle Trotter is here. Columnist, political analyst, and attorney; you see her on TV all the time. She’s on Fox News. Gayle, are you one of the people that’s ticked off at Trump, because he’s using the Twitter?

No, the opposite. I think it’s an exciting thing that a 70-year-old man is using the newest technology to get back at the Left. It is really a masterful use of this Twitter technology to advance the arguments that he wants to get out there to speak with his authentic voice and, as you said, he can bypass the mainstream media filter. They’re all trying to coordinate on JournoList or however it is the mainstream media coordinates and before they’ve had a chance to do that, he gets out there with his message and he’s framed the debate, and they’re all just left with their jaws agape.

First of all, is he using his own phone still or does he have to have a government phone? Do you know?
GT
I think it’s his own phone. I don’t think he gets a government one yet.
RH
And then are they going to take it away from him so when he’s president, he won’t be able to do it anymore. We don’t know that yet, do we?
GT
No. I think he has the discretion. He can decide and you saw many attempts during the campaign by the mainstream media, but political pundits, by even people in the Republican Party saying, “Well, can’t someone take his phone away from him?” And, yet, think of all the advantages that he has in being able to get out there on top of the stories, put his message out there. I think one of the most fantastic tweets that he sent out was about the Boeing contract for Air Force One saying that the costs were sky high, cancel the order. Now, whether or not he cancels the order is another thing, but he’s putting out the message that cost overruns are not going to be just ignored in his administration.

Well, I hope he sticks with it. Don’t you?
GT
Yes.

I get worried that – I don’t know – it’s real easy once you get in there to fall prey to D.C. life.
GT
Trump infuriates the mainstream media and this absolutely delights his voters, because they really understand that the top people in the mainstream media hold them in utter contempt.
Oh, yes. On the cocktail circuit and the headiness of being the leader of the free world, but think about how much fun it is, how he infuriates the mainstream media and this absolutely delights his voters, because they really understand that the top people in the mainstream media hold them in utter contempt. They don’t like the people who voted for Trump and so I think seeing how the mainstream media, how their hair catches on fire with Donald Trump’s tweets. I think it will only solidify the support that he has from his voters.

Yes, everything that’s going on overseas, we’re just hoping and praying that we’re not going to continue to see any of these attacks, but the fact that Donald Trump was able to come out immediately and call the attacks in Germany what they are, I think is a refreshing change from the last eight years.
