Kamala Harris’s troubled record exposes the flaws in her campaign agenda

Kamala Harris’s recent media missteps show why she has waited so long to answer basic questions about her platform and whether she can deliver results to the American people.

She continues to fumble basic questions from her adoring media allies. And even the simplest questions expose the spectacular policy failures of her administration.

Voters should look to past performance as the best indicator of future results. And Donald Trump’s first term performance presents a stark contrast from Ms. Harris’s first term performance.

At home, the Biden-Harris administration has opened our borders to unprecedented illegal immigration, weakened our economy with runaway inflation, made Americans less safe in their own homes and on neighborhood streets.

Abroad, the Biden-Harris administration oversaw a catastrophic withdrawal from Afghanistan that slaughtered US troops, gave the Taliban hundreds of billions of dollars of US military equipment, emboldened Vladimir Putin to invade Ukraine and not only encouraged but funded Iran’s support of Hamas and Hezbollah atrocities against Israel.

With that record, voters should ask what Ms. Harris promises about the policies that a future Harris administration will pursue.

Her website offers little to answer that question. Voters will find only oblique references to flashpoint policy fights, philosophical bromides, and the vapid statements of a politician seeking to broaden her appeal to get elected.

Notably, she casts her agenda in language long championed by conservatives. The “opportunity economy” she touts first on her agenda reads like a Heritage Foundation policy paper. But no one believes Ms. Harris would take policy prescriptions from the new bogeyman of the Democrats.

Nowhere is the magical thinking on more prominent display than in tax policy. She wants to increase the capital gains tax to 28% for those earning a million dollars “because when government encourages investment it leads to broad-based economic growth and creates jobs which makes our economy stronger.”

So increasing the tax on investment will somehow bring more of it?

Her opportunity economy proposals include imposing federal price controls on grocery stores. She suggests that will somehow stop rampant price gouging in groceries, a business whose profit margins are notoriously razor-thin.

More important, though, price controls cause shortages. Ms. Harris either knows she cannot deliver on her promise of the impossible, or she plans to inaugurate Soviet-style bread lines.

Next, her agenda claims she will “safeguard our fundamental freedoms” with federally mandated abortion on demand. She says she will “protect civil rights and freedoms” by “expanding government vote-by-mail and early voting and more.” The “more” is ominous.

Her notion of “fundamental freedoms” does not include second amendment rights, despite her newfound status as Glock marksman. Nor does first amendment religious liberty rate as “fundamental” for Ms. Harris.

Next, she promises to “ensure safety and justice for all.” Here she gives three priorities: addressing gun violence and crime; border security and immigration reform; and opioid and fentanyl crisis. Her experience as border czar receives no mention, with palpable irony.

Another gem is her promise to “ensure no one is above the law.” Ms. Harris promises to “ensure no former president has immunity for crimes committed while in the White House.”

The ever-soft-on-crime Ms. Harris, who supported bail funds for rioters and expressed her approval of righteous outlaws, has now discovered a law-and-order streak when it comes to lawfare harassment of Mr. Trump.

Next up is her deep commitment to the rule of law and our constitutional system of government, for which she promises “common-sense Supreme Court reforms.” This has all of the truth-in-advertising of a mafia extortion racket in the guise of neighborhood “protection” for neighborhood store keepers.

Watch for so called “common-sense reform” of the Supreme Court to involve adding three or six or (why not?) eleventy-thousand new justices until her leftist protection racket has achieved institutional capture of the federal judiciary.

Finally, in the face of widespread international peril, Ms. Harris asserts she will “keep America safe, secure and prosperous.” A bold claim for an administration that scores zero-for-three.

Touting her “leadership on the world stage,” she brags of warning Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky five days before the Russian invasion while omitting any mention of the feckless leadership that emboldened Russia’s invasion in the first place.

We know from Ms. Harris’s record of leftist extremism at home and alarming incompetence abroad that her new promises offer only more of the same: runaway inflation, open borders, out-of-control crime, and a more dangerous world.

We know that behind her advertised agenda of careful euphemisms lies a hidden agenda of nutty leftist policies and feeble international relations.
